Gaucin
is one of twenty six white villages, collectively known as
Los Pueblos Blancos in the mountain range of Serrania de
Ronda and quite possibly a visit here will offer everything
you need for a relaxing holiday without ever leaving it. It
sits more than 600 metres above sea level and is usually cooler
in summer than down at the coast, but most impressively it has
spectacular open skies and views all the way to Gibraltar and
beyond to Morocco. It’s a excellect location for those
who want to explore inland to Ronda, Granada or Seville, while
it is still only a 30 minute drive to the Mediterranean beaches
at Estepona or Sotogrande. Village life tends to be conducted
at a leisurely pace and the narrow winding streets are lined
with white houses and balconies of colourful geraniums. There
are some traditional restaurants for late lunches and some more
upmarket ones for evening meals. Sufficient village shops, a
daily market with locally grown produce and street cafes which
allow the opportunity to forget about driving and sit in the
sunshine with a beer and a tapa and watch life go by.
Gaucin is one and a half hours drive from Malaga Airport, one
hour from Gibraltar.
