HoliPops information on Ronda
Ronda is the capital of this region, and the
nearest large historical town to Gaucin and Jimena. It has a
resident population of about 36,000 and is considered as of
the most spectacularly positioned cities in all Spain, built
on a high mountain plateau on the edge of a gorge. To get to
it from the coast at San Pedro de Alcantara you drive 45 kilometres
of windy mountain road with breathtaking views and plenty of
opportunities to pull over and enjoy them. It has many historical
buildings (Renaissance, Gothic, Arabic) and a bullring thought
to be one of the oldest.
Ronda has a big selection of restaurants and
tapas bars to suit most tastes, pavement cafes, shops, cinema,
theatre, churches, tennis clubs - everything a big town might
be expected to offer. It is 120 kilometres from Seville and
Jerez and just a little more to Granada in the other direction,
making it feasible to visit for a day while on holiday here.

Amongst
Ronda's many famous visitors was the Malaga born artist, Pablo
Picasso, who was deeply inspired to create some lovely drawings
of La Corrida. Nowadays, you can wander around the
bullring and visit the museum to learn how it all began, although
fights only happen twice a year in May and September

Benoajan
where we are promoting two villas at present, is a small white
village 12 kilometres (20 minutes drive) to the north of Ronda,
in lovely mountain terrain. It is not far from Grazalema nature
reserve. It is a rural location and has a couple of shops and
several very decent restaruants.
